Timber Frame is the predominant method of construction in much of the developed world. Today, the “self builder” or ‘DIY’ is the largest builder in the UK, building more houses than any of the large national house builders, and the vast majority of these properties are built using timber frame construction.

Speed of construction, shorter building programmes, and the resultant cost savings are just some of the advantages, and combining these with sustainability and favourable environmental influences, makes timber frame the first choice for many projects.

Our modern state of the art manufacturing facility, incorporating optimising saws, ensures we minimise waste, as well as reducing manufacturing time and resultant energy requirements.

As its name implies, timber frame construction is a method of building which relies on a timber frame as the basic means of structural support. Timber Framed buildings are often referred to as ‘lightweight construction’, but don’t be misled – like the skeleton in your body, it’s a precision engineered structure that is remarkably strong and durable. Produced under strictly controlled factory conditions, your timber frame is designed to eliminate waste, and reduce construction time on site, with the resultant savings in the cost of your project.

During construction, the “open panel” timber frame allows the installation of high performance insulation and all services can be fixed in the required positions, all prior to the panels being lined internally with plasterboard. Moisture/vapour barriers are incorporated and the outer leaf of the wall completes the structure. The outer leaf which is non structural can be virtually any material but is typically stone, brick, render or timber to suit the local vernacular and planning requirements.

Without doubt, one of the many advantages of timber frame construction are it’s thermal efficiencies and the resultant savings in energy and running costs. But the benefits start long before you move into your new home with the positive effect the use of timber frame has on our environment. We only use sustainable timbers in our structures, and all from renewable European sources.

Europe currently plants more trees than we harvest, and given that new forests absorb more CO2 than existing mature plantations, the harvesting of mature woodlands for timber frame construction and the resultant replacement saplings help ensure an efficient carbon dioxide / oxygen cycle.

And with timber having the lowest CO2 cost of any commercially available building material, (with concrete and steel using substantially more energy to produce), adopting timber frame construction for your new home goes a long way to reducing your carbon footprint.
